There are plenty of options to choose from, and, of course, each one has its own advantages and disadvantages. In general, though, some operating systems offer better control over servers. Rhapsody Operating System
Rhapsody is an Apple operating system. It has been updated several times and packaged as different names, including Mac OS X 1.0. The advantage of this operating system is its stability. Users rarely encounter serious bugs that force them to shut down their servers. That means you can run your server with as little downtime as possible. Whether you want your server for personal or commercial use, stability is a good thing to consider.
Windows NT Operating System
Like Rhapsody, Windows NT has gone through numerous permutations. Some of its versions have been buggier than others. The current one gets good reviews from most professionals. It is stable and easy to use. Those are two big pluses for those that want to run their own servers but don’t want to devote a lot of time to them.
UNIX Operating System
Most tech junkies consider UNIX as the ultimate operating systems. There are several reasons for this. Perhaps most importantly, UNIX is open source, which means anyone can view its programming code and make adjustments. People with backgrounds in computer science, therefore, often choose UNIX-based systems to operate servers because they want to customize the OS. Also, and one cannot overlook this important factor, UNIX is free. It used to belong to AT&T, but the company lost rights to it after an antitrust settlement.
